Located in the heart of Morgon, the father-son duo of Jacques and Christophe Lanson have been making wine since 1993 from two Beaujolais crus – Morgon and Fleurie. They have committed their viticulture and winemaking practices to high environmental and sustainability standards, showcasing their ongoing passion for balancing the art of winemaking with their respect for terroir. The grapes that create this Morgon Réserve are hand harvested and hand sorted, keeping bunches in tact and human intervention minimal. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats but then spends 12-18 months in neutral oak barrels to allow for delicate micro-oxygenation to occur. This preserves aromatic intensity while creating a round, velvety and voluptuous mouthfeel.
While wines from Morgon are typically known to be richer, deeper coloured, and more masculine expressions of Gamay than wines from other Beaujolais Crus, Domaine de Leyre-Loup is unique in that they treat this wine more like the premium, serious cousin to the north: a Burgundy Pinot Noir. Decisions made in the vineyard and in the cellar, like avoiding malo-lactic fermentation, gives Leyre-Loup a truly delicious and coveted wine that can be cellared up to 10 years.
